FAQ’s

What is the downtime? Can I go back to work after my treatment?

It is common to notice redness, swelling, bruising and soreness immediately after the procedure. However, this shouldn’t prevent you from returning to work after injections. We recommend scheduling injections around your work schedule if you are concerned about the social downtime.

When will I see results?

You will see results immediately after treatment.

How long do results last?

This depends on the product used, area injected and the patient. Most filler injections last for 6–12 months.

What is the best lip filler?

The right one for you will depend on your natural lip structure and shape and what you would like your lips to look like after fillers. Choose a medical provider who listens to you to determine your concerns and goals.

What if I don’t get filler every 6–12 months?

If you choose to not continue filler injections, your skin will eventually go back to the state at which it was before you started treatments.

Does it hurt?

Topical anesthetics may be used to reduce pain during treatment. Additionally, all Juvederm and Restylane fillers include lidocaine, which has been shown to reduce pain.

Are there any other side effects I should know about?

The most common early reactions/side effects of injectable soft tissue fillers include bruising, edema and erythema. The application of ice after injection may help to reduce swelling, and preoperative precautions regarding anticoagulating agents may help to reduce the severity of bruising.

Will my face look undone or unnatural?

When injected in the correct amounts by the right medical provider, filler injections can result in a subtle appearance that only you will notice. But beware, everyone might comment on your improved appearance, they just might not be able to pinpoint the cause.

I’m pregnant or breastfeeding. Can I be treated with filler injections?

Filler injections should not be used in pregnancy or when breastfeeding.

PRE-TREATMENT GUIDELINES

  • Schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event. Redness, swelling, and bruising may be apparent during that time.
  • Avoid any dental procedure(s) 2 weeks prior to any filler procedure(s).
  • To minimize bruising or bleeding, it is recommended to discontinue the use of Aspirin, NSAIDS, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids at least 3 days to 1 week before and after treatment. Please consult with your primary physician prior to discontinuing any medications.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates, spicy foods, and cigarettes 24-48 hours before and after your treatment. All these factors may increase the risk of bruising and swelling.
  • Starting Arnica supplements at least 2 days prior to injections may help with bruising.

  • You may not have an active rash in the area being treated.

  • Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area unless instructed by the provider.
  • Avoid makeup for 12 hours.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Avoid extensive sun or heat for 72 hours.
  • If you have swelling, you may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour if instructed to do so by your provider.
  • Sleep face-up and slightly elevated. This will also help with swelling.
  • Postpone any dental procedure(s) for at least 2 weeks after treatment.
  • It is recommended that you wait at least 2 weeks before having any other facial treatments (i.e. facials, massages, lasers, ultrasounds, micro-dermabrasion).
